Our
Doctors
Our doctors have more than 40 years experience combined. With strong
backgrounds in vision analysis, contact lenses, laser vision correction,
children's eye care, and ocular disease, they have the knowledge and experience
needed to assess your visual and eye health needs and accurately prescribe
for you. They'll take the time to clearly explain their findings
and your best options for clear vision and healthy eyes.
Greg W. McGrew, O.D.
Dr. McGrew attended high school in Fairfax County and was an honors student
at James Madison University. He graduated from Pennsylvania College
of Optometry in 1985 and returned to Virginia. The opportunity to
come to Leesburg arose in 1987 when Dr. McGrew met Dr. Donald Lubin at
a professional meeting. The two found they had similar goals and
interests and a professional friendship developed that eventually led
to Dr. McGrew taking over Dr. Lubin's small, but growing, family optometric
practice in Leesburg.
Since coming to Leesburg, Dr. McGrew has proven himself to be an excellent optometrist by helping thousands of patients see their best while building a small, sleepy, country office into a bustling, state of the art vision care center. He has served as a clinical researcher for major contact lens manufacturers and is active in several professional organizations, including the American Optometric Association, the Virginia Optometric Association, and as a Fellow of the Virginia Academy of Optometry.
Dr. McGrew is very involved with the community, including his work as an adult leader for the Boy Scouts of America and as a youth leader for the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. He has participated in free medical care clinics in southwestern Virginia and in New Orleans after hurricane Katrina. Dr. McGrew lives in Leesburg with his wife and two teenage children and is an avid runner and cyclist.
Paul J. Chmielewski, O.D.
Dr. Chmielewski (pronounced "Ma-les-ski") grew up in Ann Arbor,
Michigan and attended Indiana University. He left the midwest after
graduating from Indiana University College of Optometry in 1987, practicing
in California, Washington, D.C. and Virginia. He has gained invaluable
experience in family eye care, contact lenses, and laser vision care having
worked with some of the most successful optometric practices and most
highly respected LASIK surgeons in the country. We have been delighted
to have him here at the Eye Care Center of Leesburg since 2003.
Dr. Chmielewski enjoys golf, ice hockey, and is an avid sports fan. He resides with his wife and growing young family in Waterford.

What is Low Vision?
Low vision specialists work with individuals who cannot achieve sharp
sight using ordinary eyeglasses, contact lenses, or medical treatments,
including surgery. Such vision loss may be the result of birth defects,
injury, the aging process, or eye disease. Dr. McGrew will help these
patients using optical and electronic visual aids as well as adaptive
and rehabilitative techniques. While it is impossible for most low vision
patients to achieve "normal vision" many are able to resume activities
such as reading, watching television, sewing, computer use, or even driving,
using the optical aids prescribed by a low vision provider.
Low vision care does not replace the need for other concurrent treatments such as laser, medication and surgery. Low Vision services do not cure the cause of the vision problem but rather utilize the remaining vision to its fullest potential Low vision doctors prescribe prescription eyewear, filters, microscopic - telescopic eyewear, magnifiers, adaptive equipment, closed circuit television systems, independent living aids, training and counsel patients.
